Got this bugger at Menard's a couple summers ago and it is a real workhorse! It sat in the garage all winter and all I had to do was get a gallon of gas, add 5-0z of 2-cycle oil, tighten up the chain and let 'er go. I gut one tankful, about an hour on trees I had felled in the fall across from the driveway. Good workout...I'm gonna feel it tomorrow. Good thing it's gonna rain.
Ran another tank of gas thru zipping the tops off some of the felled trees across the front fence and cutting up some of the bigger trunks until I ran out, for fire pit wood.
ReplyDeleteIt finally started to get cool, fall weather, so it was time to run the Blue Max. I cranked it up and took down two trees, a maple and a huge pine that are right next to the septic mound. It improved the view. Need a sharp chain next time, though.
ReplyDeleteHit it hard for 2 tankfuls on Saturday, sawing up brush down in the "sunset strip" area. The Blue Max was up to the job. We burned and sawed downed ones for 5 hours.
ReplyDeleteHit it again for 5 hours on Sunday in the "sunset strip" area, a and on the other side of the fence....the old garden. Also got the guy across the road to take 5 trees away with his bobcat...that was sweet. It would have been all day for me to cut them up and burn them, and now he's got them for firewood. Helped him block them up. Burned a lot of brush in the old garden area. The blue Max chain could not be tightened down and I had to put it aside. I wonder if it's possible for a chain to wear or heat up and get too big for the bar. It appears so.
ReplyDeleteChris was down on Tuesday and we took the Blue Max apart, cleaned it up inside, and put a fresh chain on. It fit! Then the old chain did not fit! Was excited enough that the sharp one fit that we limbed the birch at the end of the driveway, then tied a long line to it up high and had Cathy and Chris pull on it, while I sawed the trunk off that has the big rot-hole in it, threatening to break off a ton of limb and either hit the corner of the house, the car in the driveway or both. It worked perfectly! They guided it into the yard and we cut half of it up before it got dark, with the renewed blue Max!
